Leave the car and life on the mainland behind and travel by ferry from Mallaig to Eigg. On arrival, join Camille Dressler of Eigg Qi Gong on a guided walk across the island to reach Lageorna, passing Kildonnan beach to spot wildlife, forage and gather material for art-journalling, discoveringthe stories in the landscape. Enjoy lunch at Lageorna, tasting delicious island-grown produce and taking time to soak up the views from the restaurant.

After a tasty lunch, head out on a walk to Hulin to discover Eigg’s historical crofting landscape and try your hand at Qi Gong, a Chinese holistic practice promoting health, mindfulness and ‘life energy’. Stop at Eigg Organics to pick up local potatoes to cook on the fire the next day: discover modern crofting today!

Join Hilda of Eigg Hands On for an introduction to art journalling, using mixed media and hand made paper to start your own journalling book. End the day with dinner at Lageorna before falling asleep to the sound of the waves of Laig Bay.

Begin a new day with Qi Gong on Laig beach and set off on a walk along the shore to the Singing Sands. Forage for seaweed and shellfish with Camille whilst looking for fossils and learning about the island’s geology with Craig of Eigg Explorers.

Try your hand at making a beach fire at the Singing Sands to cook the wild food and potatoes from the croft, using Camille’s seaweed butter as a lovelycondiment. Walk back through Talm An Guala Mor for great views of Skye and Eigg before dinner at Lageorna.

Start the next day with a bike ride (supplied by Eigg Adventures) to Galmisdale to climb the iconic An Sgurr. Enjoy a picnic lunch and mountain Qi Gong with stories of the landscape and of the people. Head down to visit Laig Bay microbrewery, continuing to Galmisdale Bay Cafe to enjoy a drink with the islanders. Bike back to Lageorna for dinner, finishing your art-journal and making your own seaweed salt and condiment to take home.

On the final morning, discover the island’s beautiful coast by kayak, or bike to Grulin, a ruined clearance village, before catching the ferry and waving goodbye to this interesting and friendly island.
